After four months of protests in Hong Kong, the results came out to be quite dangerous. In an incident, a police officer shot a teenager in the chest. He was an 18-year-old protestor and was left bleeding. The officer responsible for the act feared for his life, as told by a police spokesperson. She also added that the boy was taken to a hospital for his treatment.
It was the 70th anniversary of the People’s Republic of China when the Hong Kong Police used water cannon and tear gas against the protestors. Several warning shots were fired in the air before but then the report came that a protestor has been shot in the chest. This incident’s video was also broadcasted on CNN news.
Protestors called for greater democracy and promised to use October 1st (that marks China’s 70th year of the People’s Republic of China) to boost their calls. Countering that, hundreds of police officials were present at the city’s Convention and Exhibition Centre where there was tight security.

According to a police statement, “There are rioting acts across Kowloon, Hong Kong, and the New Territories.” The use of tear gas was at least in six places in the city. Water cannons were used in business districts where the number of protestors was quite high.
At least one lakh people trooped on the day when the Government had banned demonstrations. Many of these marchers wore gas masks, held sticks and burned signs. The protests have continued for four months and this is the major political crisis that the city has faced since the year, 1997 when it was back to Chinese control.
Li, a woman of 42-year-old who was amongst many marchers, said, “I’m not young, but if we don’t march now, we’ll never have the chance to speak again, it’s as simple as that.” This simply showed how eager were the people to pitch for themselves.
