Universities Should Focus More On Improving Research Culture: VP Naidu

CHENNAI: M. Venkaiah Naidu, the Vice President of India has emphasised upon the requirement to improve the innovation culture in India. He also asked Indian universities to focus on enhancing the research culture.

The Vice President recently gave a speech at IIT (Indian Institute of Technology) Madras. He mentioned to the audience that India needs to move ahead in terms of constant innovation. Hence, a culture for it needs to be developed.

Naidu talked about the phenomenon of Artificial Intelligence and how it should be used in the field of disaster management, water conservation and treatment, recycling, healthcare, agriculture and so on. He wants universities to come up with these innovations.

As per his perspective, innovation is strongly linked to activities like research and development. Hence, Indian universities should create an atmosphere of constant exposure to the research culture.

The Vice President told the students, who were present at the event that they are the heirs of India's agelong tradition of excellence in terms of art, literature, architecture and so on. Therefore, it is their responsibility to carry on the legacy.

He insisted upon welcoming new ideas from around the world but should resist being blown off their feet.
