IOC Remains Fully Committed To The Olympic Games Tokyo 2020: Officials

GENEVA: The International Olympic Committee said that it is fully committed to the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020 despite the outbreak of the pandemic COVID-19. 

"The IOC remains fully committed to the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020, and with more than four months to go before the Games there is no need for any drastic decisions at this stage, and any speculation at this moment would be counter-productive," said the IOC in its statement.

The statement was made after its executive board held a teleconference with international federations regarding how they are preparing to deal with this worldwide emergency. 

The statement further said that the coronavirus outbreak "is also impacting the preparations for the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020, and is changing day by day." However, it further said that the IOC is confident the authorities around the world are taking preventive measures and thus, will help contain the situation of the COVID-19 virus.
