New Delhi: India's fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah did not feature in the Ranji Trophy match in which he was supposed to prove his fitness. Bumrah was supposed to play the match between Gujarat and Kerala in the elite group A game at Lalbhai contractor stadium in Surat on Thursday.
The 26 year old has been out of action since September due to lower injury but he was named in the Indian squad for the home T20 and ODI against Sri Lanka and Australia next month.
The cricketer was expected to mark his return in the Ranji Trophy game for Gujarat but according to the reports he was a little concerned about his hectic comeback process and rather wished for a relatively smoother return. BCCI President Sourav Ganguly and secretary Jay Shah suggested Bumrah to focus on white ball cricket as of now and allowed him an extended break, when the Indian bowler raised these concerns with them. Bumrah has been pulled out of the Ranji game now and it is learnt that the player will directly appear for the Sri Lanka series.
According to the reports the Gujarat management did not agree to the national selection panel's request to allow bumrah to bowl just 4 to 8 hours a day. It was said that It wouldn't be justifiable to allow the bowler such a concession.
Worth mentioning that Bumrah has become India's go to bowler in all three formats. He had last played for India during the test series in the West Indies and in the second game in Jamaica Bumrah became only the third Indian player to take a test hat-trick after veteran off spinner Harbhajan Singh and Pacer Irfan Pathan. The player's come back after his injury was expected after he bowled full tilt in a training session ahead of the 2nd ODI against the West Indies in Visakhapatnam last week.
