SYDNEY: Shafali Verma, the young opening batsman of the Indian Women's Cricket Team has now become the number one batter, as per the T20 International rankings. India is all set to play the semifinal match against the team of England at the Women's T20 World Cup in Sydney on 5 March 2020.
Verma scoring 161 runs in merely 4 innings which included knocks of 47 and 46 during the match against Sri Lanka and New Zealand, prove that she's a top-notch sportsperson. She has also become the second person from India to attain this title after Mithali Raj in the batting rankings of Women's T20I.
The aspiring batter, who is merely 16 years old has gained this position by replacing Suzie Bates from New Zealand, who had been in the number 1 sport since October 2018. Before Bates, the captain of West Indies, Stafanie Tayor was the top-ranked player.

However, Smriti Madhana, another opener from the Indian team is placed on the 6th position, she was earlier at 4th. Jemimah Rodrigues, another batter from the Indian team, also went down by 2 places and currently stands at the 9th spot.
In terms of Bowling, Sophie Ecclestone is at no. 1. She is from England.

Ecclestone took 8 wickets in 4 matches, which included a best of 3 for 7 against the team of West Indies. She also became the first player from England to become the top-ranked bowler after Anya Shrubsole in April 2016.
