Mumbai: Actress Deepika Padukone has been honoured with an award for raising mental health awareness. The actress has been awarded by the 26th Annual Crystal Award and has become the only Indian actress to Davos 2010 winners list.
The excited actress said that she was honoured to receive the award. Deepika said that depression , nowadays, i the leading cause of ill health and disability in the world today with more than 300 million people suffering from it.
"It is a major contributor to the overall global burden of disease nowadays," said the actress. Deepika further said that everyone aggressively needs to address what is invisible and overlooked till now in terms of health and social burden. "I am humbled and deeply honoured to be chosen for this year's Crystal Award and dedicate the awards to the millions around the world who experience stress, anxiety and depression and other forms of mental illness," stated the B-town diva.
The actor shares the league with artist Theaster Gates and choreographer Jin Xing, who have been in the 2020 list of the awards.
On the work front, Deepikam Padukone would be seen in Meghna Gulzar';s upcoming 'Chhapaak'. The film is inspired by the life of an acid attack survivor Laxmi Agarwal who became an activist later. Chhapaak''s trailer has been recently released and has gathered a lot of appreciation from the audience. The film also stars Vikrant Massey in the lead role. Chhapaak is slated to be released on January 10, 2020.
Deepika would also be seen in Kabir Khan's '83' a movie inspired by cricketer Kapil Dev. She would be playing the role of Kapil Dev's wife Romi Dev. 83 is a movie based on the historic 1983 cricket World Cup win by India and stars Ranveer Singh beside Deepika in the lead role. The movie will hit the theatres on April 10, 2020.
