Mumbai: While Deepika Padukone is busy promoting her upcoming film 'Chhapaak' in the entire country, the movie will not be promoted in New Delhi due to violent protest and unrest in the national capital over CAA.
The actress and her team along with Chhapaak's director Meghna Gulzar have decided not to promote the movie in the national capital.
Deepika said, "we believe that it will be insensitive on our part to promote our film at a time when the nation and the city is going through an emotional upheaval and unrest. We pray for peace and harmony and regret the inconvenience caused by our absence but we hope you will understand. Along with this director of the movie Meghna Gulzar also apologized for not promoting the flick in New Delhi stating that for the last few days the national capital has been witnessing unrest and people here need peace, which prevents us from coming and promoting the film here.
It is worth mentioning that the last few days have been difficult for the national capital as Delhi witnessed, and is continuing to do so, the protest over Citizenship Amendment Act 2019. To regulate the calmness and decency in the city, Section 144 has been imposed by the administration in several parts. Security has been tightened and heavy force has been deployed ahead of the protest march that was supposed to take place even after the administration denied the permission, thus, complicating the situation
In her upcoming film 'Chhapaak' Deepika Padukone would be seen in the role of an acid attack survivor Laxmi Agarwal. The film would show the struggles and bravery of the acid attack survivor. Chhapaak would also star Vikrant Messay in the role of Deepika's love interest. The movie is scheduled to hit theatres on January 10, 2020, which would lead to the clash of the movie with 'Taanhaji: The unsung warrior' starring Ajay Devgan, Kajol and Saif Ali Khan.
