NEW DELHI: With at least 748 active COVID-19 cases in India, the total number of positive cases reached 834, said the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare o Saturday.
Out of all the 834 cases, 66 have recovered so far whereas 19 people have lost their lives. The disease has spread to the country's 27 states and Union Territories. A total of 103 districts are suffering because of the contagious virus.
The Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare said on Friday that it has ordered Public Sector Undertakings to provide ventilators so as to handle the rise in COVID-19 cases in the country.
Lav Agarwal, the Joint Health Secretary of the Health Ministry, said, "The government is taking a preemptive and proactive approach to tackle the situation. In order to upgrade the number of ventilators in the country, we have given an order to PSU to provide 10,000 ventilators. Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL), which is one of the Defence Ministry's PSUs, has also been requested to purchase 30,000 additional ventilators in 1-2 months."
"Around 1.4 lakh companies allowed employees allowed work from home after our appeal of social distancing and lockdown," Agarwal said further.
