COVID-19: Cases In India Climb To 1.12 Lakh; Death Toll To Surpass 3,500

NEW DELHI: As much as 5,609 COVID-19 positive cases got reported countrywide on Thursday, May 21. The total tally of the nation is now at 1,12,359. The highly-contagious virus also claimed the lives of 132 individuals in the last 24 hours. The death toll has risen to 3,435. 

Currently. there are 63,624 individuals who are battling the coronavirus, as per the data provided by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare on their website. On the bright side, precisely 40% of the people from the total affected individuals have been completely cured of the virus. Over 42,000 people have made a recovery.

Areas like Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, Gujarat and Delhi are the most affected with the highest number of cases.

A huge spike in Maharashtra was observed as the state came forward with over 2,000 fresh cases of COVID-19 for the 4th consecutive day. It also accounted for 65 deaths on Wednesday, May 20. The total count of the entire state is 39,297.

Delhi reported 534 new individuals who were found to be infected with coronavirus in the past day. There are around 11,088 cases in totality in the capital city.

Tamil Nadu also surpassed the 13,000-mark and comes second in terms of the state with most number of coronavirus cases.

Apart from India, 10 other countries also have COVID-19 positive cases above the 1 lakh mark. It, however, has the least number of deaths compared to all these other countries. It is behind Russia which has a death toll of 2,972. Approximately 2.94% of Indians are on oxygen support, 3% in ICUs and other 0.45% are on the ventilator support, as per the Health Ministry.
