NEW DELHI: As per the data received during Monday morning i.e. 4 May 2020 by the Union Health Ministry, India now has 42,553 total cases of coronavirus. In the last 24 hours, 2,553 new cases were detected and 72 deaths were observed.
However, there are 29,453 active cases of the novel coronavirus countrywide as 11,706 patients have made a recovery and have now been discharged from the hospital. Other 1,373 patients lost their lives to the virus, as per the dashboard of the Health Ministry at 8 am.

On Sunday, the total number of cases crossed the 40,000-mark. Around 11 days before this, the cases were at 20,000-mark. On 29 April, the cases surpassed the 30,000-mark. The cases crossed the 15,000-mark on April 19.
It merely took a week for the cases to double from 10,000 to 20,000.
The centre has declared that the nation is on the right path in terms of flattening the curve of the growing virus infections as it is slowing down.
The figures show that the virus cases are now doubling within 11.5 days and not in the average period, which was just 4 days.
Harsh Varshan, the Union Health Minister spoke about the aforementioned matter and revealed, "If in last 14 days, the doubling rate was 10.5 days, then today it is around 12 days."

He also said that the nation was "on the path of success" to win the "war" against coronavirus. The death rate in India is at 3.2% and is the lowest in the world.
