GUNTUR: People began stone pelting at Andhra Pradesh policemen at Pondugula check post in the Andhra Pradesh-Telangana border on Thursday evening. A few officials were among the injured ones.

A large number of students from Hyderabad, mostly comprising students, turned to the Telangana side of the interstate border in order to proceed to their homes in AP. As the whole country is under lockdown due to COVID-19, police pushed them back towards Telangana but the infuriated group of people began stone-pelting.

The incident was reported a few hours after AP CM Y.S Jagan Reddy appealed to everyone living in other states, especially Telangana, to remain there until the lockdown is uplifted. In a statement, Reddy said, "As per discussions between the two governments, the Telangana government will provide all facilities to people from Andhra Pradesh living in Hyderabad."

A number of people, mostly IT professionals and students, belonging to AP stayed in hostels and paid guest facilities in Hyderabad. Now when the 21 days lockdown was announced on March 24th, many of them are trying to return their home state.

Meanwhile, security has been increased at various check-posts on the interstate border between Telangana and Andhra Pradesh.
