OTTAWA: Sophie Gregoire Trudeau, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's wife, has tested positive for COVID-19, an official had announced.
The PM, who has been in a self-isolation with his wife at home, will not be tested as he is showing no virus symptoms, PM's Office said in a statement on Thursday night. It further added that the couple will be remaining in isolation for the planned 14 days.
Trudeau also tweeted the unfortunate news on his twitter handle.
I have some additional news to share this evening. Unfortunately, the results of Sophie’s COVID-19 test are positive. Therefore, she will be in quarantine for the time being. Her symptoms remain mild and she is taking care of herself and following the advice of our doctor.

Sophie becomes the 158th Canadian citizen to have tested for the novel virus. On Wednesday, the World Health Organization (WHO) has declared the deadly coronavirus pandemic.
In her statement, Sophie said she is feeling "uncomfortable symptoms of the virus" but will be back on her feet soon. The First Lady said, "Being in quarantine at home is nothing compared to other Canadian families who might be going through this and for those facing more serious health concerns. We will get through this situation together. Please share the facts and take your health seriously."
On the other hand, PM Justin Trudeau will be continuing his duties towards the country and will address the citizens on Friday.
CTV News reported that the Health officials are now tracing people who have been in contact with the First Lady. Sophie started experiencing flu-like symptoms after she returned from a speaking engagement in the United Kingdom, said the statement of PMO. Immediately after, she sought medical advice.
The Prime Minister had said his wife was feeling better but echoed the message of caution in a tweet on Thursday afternoon before it was confirmed that she tested positive for the deadly virus.
