On Sunday, health officials confirmed the third death because of the deadly coronavirus in Italy. An elderly cancer patient became the third confirmed case to die after contracting the novel virus. The number of infected cases continues to rise in the country.
The woman passed away at a hospital in Crema, located in Lombardy, where most cases of the virus have been reported.

Lombardy’s health chief Giulio Gallera, in a conference, said “She had been hospitalised for a few days. She’d been tested and they already knew she had the coronavirus.”
Angelo Borrelli, who is the head of Italy’s civil protection department said that a total of 152 people have now tested positive for coronavirus, including the three deceased.
Last week, Italy had become the first country in Europe to announce a death from coronavirus after a 78-year-old man died in the region of Veneto.

On Saturday, a 77-year-old woman died in Lombardy, which prompted new measures by the government to contain the spread of the virus.
As a precautionary measure, 11 towns are currently under lockdown-- 10 in Lombardy and 1 in Veneto. Residents are prohibited from leaving, public events such as sporting matches have been cancelled and schools have been instructed to remain shut.
