Excited For The Trip: Melania Trump On Visit To India

US First Lady Melania Trump took to her official Twitter handle to express her excitement for her upcoming trip to India with President Donald Trump later this month. 

Thanking Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the “kind invitation”, Melania said that she was looking forward to visiting Ahemdabad and New Delhi to celebrate the close ties between the two countries.

“Looking forward to visiting Ahmedabad and New Delhi later this month,” she said. President Trump and “I are excited for the trip and to celebrate the close ties between the USA and India,” she tweeted. 

The first lady was replying to a tweet by PM Modi where he called the US President Trump and Melania's visit to India a “very special one”. “India will accord a memorable welcome to our esteemed guests. This visit is a very special one and it will go a long way in further cementing India-USA friendship,” Modi had said in the tweet.

People with knowledge about the trip said that they will first be visiting Ahemdabad on 24 February and reach the national capital on the same night for the second leg of the visit, which takes place on February 25. The President and the first lady may stop to visit Taj Mahal on their way back home. 

This will be Donald Trump's first visit to India. Earlier, India had invited the US President to attend the 2018 Republic Day parade as a chief guest; however, White House declined the invitation citing scheduling issues.
