Hong Kong leader Lam withdraws extradition bill

Hong Kong leader Carrie Lam on Wednesday withdrew extradition bill that created months of protests across the city. sparked months of protests across the special administrative region.
"The government will formally withdraw the bill in order to fully allay public concerns," Chief Executive Carrie Lam said .
"The secretary for security will move a motion according to the rules of procedure when the Legislative Council resumes," she added.
Removal of extradition bill was one of the important demands of the protesters.
"On setting up a Commission of Inquiry. The government believes that matters relating to police enforcement actions are best handled by the existing and well-established Independent Police Complaints Council (IPCC)," Lam said.
“From this month, I and my principal officials will reach out to the community to start a direct dialogue,” she said. “People from all walks of life, with different views and backgrounds, are invited to share their views and air their grievances,” she added.
Since the early June, Hong Kong has been suffering. thousands of protesters took streets and destroyed public properties. They also swarmed inside international airports and railway stations and hampered the situations across the city.
Apart from the extradition bill, there were other four demands also and they are yet to be fulfilled.
Goals of protesters
1. Complete withdrawal of the proposed extradition bill from the legislative process (as opposed to suspension)
2. Retraction of the characterization of the protests as "riots"
3. Release and exoneration of arrested protesters
4. Establishment of an independent commission of inquiry into police behavior
5. Universal suffrage for Legislative Council and Chief Executive elections
