SRINAGAR: During an ongoing operating being conducted in downtown Srinagar two terrorists got killed. It occurred in the heavily populated area of Srinagar, which further forced the local authorities to disable mobile internet and calling facilities.
A representative from Jammu and Kashmir police revealed, "An encounter has started at Kanemazar Nawakadal area of Srinagar. The Jammu and Kashmir Police and the Central Reserve Police Force are on the job."

The terrorists were from Hizbul Mujahideen and two weapons were also retrieved from the both of them, as per the police representative.
Another police official mentioned that the gunshots could be heard from the densely populated pocket of the old city within Srinagar. It happened during the pre-dawn operation which got launched around 2 am.
Although, after the firing, a long stretch of silence followed. The search is still being carried out to capture the militants who are hiding, the official said. In order to take "precautionary measure", the authorities of the area decided to disable internet and voice calling facilities from mobile phones.
During the encounter, 2 security personnel including one Central Reserve Police Force (CPRF) jawan and one policeman suffered injuries, as per the police.
The police also said, "A heavy exchange of fire is going on from both sides."

The locals also revealed that they heard loud explosions from the area near the encounter site. Other than that, there was also an incident involving stone pelting in the old city.
