Coronavirus: India Cases Surge Past 3.45 Lakh; Death Toll Almost 10,000

MUMBAI: India has experienced another huge spike in the number of deaths caused by the coronavirus pandemic as 380 deaths occurred in a single day. The total death toll of the country is now at 9,900. In the last few days, the fatality rate of the country has been rapidly increasing.

As many as 10,667 new coronavirus cases were detected in the duration of the last 24 hours, which is lesser than the past days. The total tally of the entire country is now at 3,43,091. Delhi, Tamil Nadu also seemed to have reported a decreased number of cases on Monday, June 15.

As of now, there are 1,53,178 active coronavirus cases within the nation. However, more than 50% of the affected patients have also been recovered fully of the virus.

Maharashtra reported 2,786 new cases in a single day and the total state tally now stands at 1,10,744. The death toll has also risen to 4,128 as 178 new deaths got reported in the past one day. Maharashtra is the only state in India to have over 1 lakh COVID-19 cases.

Tamil Nadu reported the most number of deaths yet on Monday. Almost 44 people lost their lives due to the virus. More than 18,000 were found to be COVID-19 positive. The total tally is 46,504.

Four districts from Tamil Nadu which includes Chennai will be under strict lockdown for the coming 12 days, which will start from 19 June, in order to control the spread of the virus, as per the chief minister Edappadi K Palaniswami on Monday.

Delhi COVID-19 count has also been increasing and has reached 42,829 yesterday i.e. Monday. As many as 1,647 were detected as having COVID-19 in the last 24 hours. The death toll of the national capital is 1,400.
