Airports authorities of Hong Kong on Monday cancelled all the flights, after hundreds of protestors swarmed inside the terminal for the fouth consecutive day. The authorities also said that the cancellations will start around 4pm local time.
But the passengers who have already boarded the plane were allowed to go to their destinations.
The Airport Authorities have issued a notice on the website saying: "Airport operations at Hong Kong International Airport have been seriously disrupted, all flights have been canceled. All passengers are advised to leave the terminal buildings as soon as possible. Affected passengers please contact their respective airlines for flight arrangement,"
While addressing Chinese state press and some Hong Kong mediapersons, the spokesperson for China's Hong Kong and Macau Affairs Office Yang Guang said : "In recent days, Hong Kong's radical protesters have repeatedly attacked police with highly dangerous tools, which constitute serious violent crimes and have started to show signs of terrorism," he said, according to the South China Morning Post.
He said China would clamp down on the unrest with an "iron fist."
The initial spark for the ongoing protests was an extradition bill that would allow Hong Kongers to be sent to mainland China for trial.
Causes of Protests
1. Proposal of the Fugitive Offenders and Mutual Legal Assistance in Criminal Matters Legislation (Amendment) Bill 2019.
2. Excessive use of force by the Hong Kong Police Force against demonstrators and government characterisation of protests as riots (since 12 June)
